Community Food Drive to Be Hosted by WESTconsin Credit Union

WESTERN WIWESTconsin Credit Union offices are collecting non-perishable food products and cash donations for families in need from December 7-19. Items can be dropped off at any WESTconsin location including Amery, Baldwin, Barron, Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Ellsworth, Hudson, Menomonie (North, Downtown and East), New Richmond, Prescott, River Falls and Spring Valley. All proceeds will be delivered by the credit union to local food pantries for distribution.

Monetary donations are especially valuable because for every $1 in cash, food pantries can purchase up to $10 worth of food. The number of families in need has increased substantially in recent years, leaving food shelves less stocked than in the past. According to the 2010 Poverty and Population estimates from the US Census Bureau, 69,950 people in the 14 counties of west central Wisconsin live in poverty including more than one of every five children.

Thank you for attending the 19th Annual Free Cooperative Breakfast!

Thank you for attending the 19th Annual Free Cooperative Breakfast! A big shout out to our partners at Dunn Energy Cooperative, Cedar Country Co-op, West Wisconsin Telcom / 24-7 Telcom and Royal Credit Union.

A note from Stepping Stones of Dunn County—this year's recipient of the food drive at the breakfast.
Thanks so much for the great breakfast and for again doing the food and fund drive for the Stepping Stones Food Pantry as part of it. 1,419 food items were donated for a total of 1,546 lbs. as well as $909.25. We are currently serving about 60 households per day, six days a week, so this will help tremendously.

Inventory supply needs for food pantries are especially high during summer months, largely due to students being out of school. Many area students receive reduced or free lunches while schools are in session and without the support of the food pantries, these children may not receive adequate nutrition over summer break. Monetary donations are especially valuable because for every $1 in cash, food pantries can purchase up to $10 worth of food. According to the 2010 Poverty and Population estimates from the US Census Bureau, 69,950 people in the 14 counties of west central Wisconsin live in poverty including more than one of every five children.
